About this clue type

From the preamble to Azed No. 1250

In the 24 hour clock, 1250 hours is ten to one. In the answers to half the across and half the down clues TEN is replaced by ONE (or appropriate alternatives of each) or vice versa. In each of the clues to these answers (all non-words}, except 1 Down, the definition part refers to the word before treatment and the subsidiary indication refers to the diagram entry, whose length is shown in brackets. All other clues and answers are normal. Competitors should submit with their solutions a clue to replace the definition at 1 Down in the style of the other special clues.
