COMMENTS:—Just over 400 entries, not many mistakes. Ximenes is sorry the competition result is a week late. He has had a coronary which put him temporarily out of action, but he is making steady progress. This week he has been allowed to judge the entries by easy stages under my watchful eye. He thanks many solvers for their good wishes for convalescence and also for appreciative comments on the puzzle. Do not imagine that all this has in any way impaired his customary devilry.—M.M.
[M.M. is Ximenes’ wife, Mary Macnutt. Ximenes died shortly before the Slip was mailed to competitors.]
